Water leak
Thames Water turned up to fix a leak (Jan 2024). Some flats lost all water pressure for 2 days before it was fixed.
Summer party
A few of us got together for a party on the middle court. Unfortunately, many of us were away on summer holidays or at festivals. Thank you to the organisers!
New block management
After many years of great service, SE1 Ltd will be replaced by a new block management company, Jennings & Barrett Ltd (Apr 2023). The new company has an online portal where flat owners can see and pay their service charge bills.
Fly tipping
Fly tipping continues to be a problem (March 2023).
Spring
We had a warmish winter which saved on heating bills. War in Ukraine was a grave threat to gas bills, at one point.
New gate
The old metal gate was scraping along the ground because the masonry pillar was giving insufficient support to the metal gate pillar. A new wooden frame was constructed and a new gate (with non-standard dimensions) fitted. The old lock was reused to save replacing evetryone's keys. Photo shows work as of 21 Dec 2022. Just handles to be added.
New lighting
New ligthing installed on the path to gate. Will make walking down those steps much safer. [Dec 2022]
Rail crash anniversary
From Claire: "It is the anniversary of the St John's rail crash, 4th December 1957. Our late neighbour, Peggy Pike told me so much about that day. A real tragedy, and a significant part of Grover Court history. If you look to the left of the photo you can see the corner of Grover Court. It's apparently the reason why the rail girders at the back of the estate are still uneven; they didn't quite finish the repairs. Peggy told me she had been standing on her balcony when the crash happened and that it was followed by an eerie silence. Her, her husband Bill, Iris and other neighbours took out blankets, provisions, etc. She showed me a letter from the council thanking them and offering to compensate them. She said they refused to be reimbursed." [Dec 2022]
Painting
The court nearest the railway line is being rennovated. Old cracked plaster replaced and then repainted. Making the most of the warm dry weather (Aug 2022).
Cat rescued
The injured but very shy black cat was caught and treated by Celia Hammond. Thanks for the general effort to make this happen.
New parking rules
Non-residents have been parking their vehicles on our road to avoid paying for a council parking permit. We have re-introduced parking patrols and have agreed new rules. Please find the details on the General Information page.
Fibre optic cable
We get fibre optic cable! The details are on the General Information page. The service provider is Community Fibre. You should be able to register from 21 Jun 2022.
Summer arrives
Our indefatigable gardener does battle with vegetation. If you happen to pass by her, please consider thanking her; she does a great job.
Window cleaning
Flat windows have not been cleaned in a while. Jeffry came and did many flats in one go (Apr 2022). He had the gear to reach the highest windows. His next visit may be December 2022. Jeffry's business is Kpodo Poles.
Tree surgery
Tree surgeons came to tidy up our trees (April 2022). Thanks to residents for moving their cars, enabling the team to access the hedges. Tidy job!
Gateway fixed
The arch over the pedestrian gate collapsed in early 2022. It was fixed but, alas, not restored to its former glory; building brick arches is a rare skill, it turns out. We had some trouble with the lock after the gateway was fixed. Thanks to Trev for sorting it.
Storm clear up
Storm Eunice blew through in February 2022. The building held up well but the storm blew litter around and pushed over a fence or two. Many of the residents got involved in the tidy up and Dom and Eoin fixed the fencing. Gosha gave us tea and biscuits.
